New WhatsApp web security features for the desktop app

WhatsApp Web is getting new and improved security features. Users will now need to authenticate the link or log into their WhatsApp account on the desktop app via fingerprint or Face ID. This new security feature will prevent other people from attempting to log in via your device when you are not there. In terms of privacy, WhatsApp will not store any biometric data on its servers.

The entire authentication process will take place on the device itself. Furthermore, WhatsApp cannot even access any of the biometric data stored locally on the device; more details on the story to come.

New WhatsApp web security features for the desktop app

For users to avoid fraudulent loging and unauthentic access of desktop whatsapp need Biometric authentication where it will provide an additional layer of security for desktop whatsapp users.

Therefore, the next time a user tries to log in to the WhatsApp web application, they will be asked to authenticate the process by providing a fingerprint or Face ID. Only after biometric authentication is complete will users be able to access the QR code scanner on their smartphone.

WhatsApp said this would restrict people at the user's home or workplace from accessing WhatsApp on their desktops without the account owner's permission. It is an extension of the current security measure that allows the user to know via a pop-up window that they are accessing WhatsApp on another device.

Users also have the option to disconnect their WhatsApp from any device they want.
This new security feature has not yet been implemented. WhatsApp said it will roll out this feature globally in the coming weeks. A visual redesign will also be implemented for WhatsApp web pages managed by phones.

The social media giant said it cannot access or store any bio-metric information by design. This new feature will surely be a boon for people who are worried about their chat hacking.

Implementation of the WhatsApp privacy policy New date

WhatsApp has seen strong rejection from its users around the world for the new privacy policies introduced. Nobody was satisfied with the company collecting personal data from users and not even giving them the option to reject the new policies in some countries like India. Since users began switching to other apps, WhatsApp has extended the new deadline for policy acceptance to May 15, 2021. Previously, this date was February 8, 2021.
