How to take Electric vehicle safety precautions before ride

It is better to take precautions before you ride electric vehicle safer. The purchase of eco-friendly electric vehicles (electric vehicles-EV) has increased significantly in recent times. Many youngsters are purchasing electric vehicle and booking best travel electric bike.

Accidents are often caused by their batteries exploding and electric vehicles burning. Some were trapped in the blaze and lost their lives, while others were injured. Recently News Today India reported in media electric vehicle driver was killed and three others were seriously injured.

Why do the original EV batteries explode? What precautions precaution to take to prevent electric vehicle accidents? Things are so serious and its time to talk about safety precautions for electric vehicles.

Reasons for the explosion of batteries in electric drive vehicles

What kind of batteries are used in electric vehicles: The lithium-ion batteries in EV have about 100-200 cells. Differences in the way they are packaged in the battery can cause them to explode.

  1. A short circuit inside the battery can also cause an explosion.
  2. Defective cells in batteries, defects in battery design
  3. Uncontrolled power to the battery while charging
  4. Faults in wiring, differences in fuel line
  5. Charging beyond the specified time. Leaving the charging overnight
  6. If the vehicle is charged immediately after washing, the socket will be damaged.
  7. The battery warms up well before it explodes. Then come the fumes and fires.
  8. Do not charge beyond the average time. Charging should be stopped if it feels overheated. Sometimes fluctuations in power supply can cause the battery to overheat.

Safety precautions for electric vehicles to take

  1.  Do not store EV for long time in too much sun and too cold weather
  2.  Only original and authorized chargers should be used for charging.
  3.  Batteries should be kept away from flammable materials.
  4.  Keep batteries at room temperature.
  5.  If the battery casing is damaged and water enters in it, immediately put it aside and Inform the dealer immediately for replacement.
  6.  Keep the battery and charger in a clean, dry, well-lit place.
  7.  Lithium ion batteries heat up well while charging. It should be checked frequently.
  8.  Battery should never be 100% charged. Should not be left entirely. Make sure the charging is between 20-80 percent.

Do not do this while charging electric vehicle at home

  1. Do not leave the batteries charging overnight.
  2.  Do not place batteries in direct sunlight
  3.  Do not charge the battery for about an hour after using the vehicle.
  4.  Do not charge fast. As a result, more electricity enters the battery in less time and puts pressure on it.

Similar systems are needed

  1. EV has a smart battery management system and a thermal management system to control some of these risks.
  2. With smart battery management system you can know the temperature of each cell in it along with the battery from time to time.
  3. Thermal management system or active cooling system when temperatures reach a maximum. The fans around the battery pack reduce the temperature again.

These precautions are a must when buying a battery

  1. The most important part of the EV is the battery. It should be purchased only from authorized dealers
  2. EV and battery manufacturers must be licensed by ARAI (Automotive Research Association of India). Buy batteries manufactured to the standards specified by that company.
  3. Do not buy low quality batteries sold by some Chinese companies that are available at low prices.
  4. The Central Government has introduced a new standard for battery manufacturing called AIS‌ 156. Accordingly the vehicle will be tested in many forms including short circuit, overcharging, different weather conditions and immersion in water. Only buy batteries that meet AIS‌ 156 standards.
